I read volume one of Fairy Tail yesterday. It seems to be about magicians and a guild called "Fairy Tail", although I can't see any real plot yet. So far, it's really good (and screams "shounen manga").
It has almost all the elements of a good shounen manga: a hero and heroine, sense of humor, good plot development, etc.
RATING: 9 salamanders.
The first chapter seems specifically designed to draw in readers. Both the hero, Natsu, and the heroine, Lucy, appear in it along with an explanation of who they are through their actions. The antagonist (?) also appears in the very beginning, complete with badass skillz. There's also that boob flashing so typical of shounen manga. Although in this case, the mangaka doesn't do it subtly, he uses I Have Boobs You Must Obey. And there's an epic battle scene with lots of fwoosh.
The chapter was loooong. (84 pages?) But still pretty awesome.
The art's pretty simple though, not much background in most of the panels. And I don't really like how the mangaka deteriorates his art when there's a gag/comedy scene.
I shall read more of it. It is awesome so far.
